Anthony Elanga revealed that he had discussions with his Sweden colleague Alexander Isak regarding a potential move to Newcastle during the summer transfer window.
Elanga, now with Nottingham Forest, was linked to a transfer to Newcastle as the summer window was closing.
At that time, talkSPORT reported that any potential deal might have involved Elliot Anderson moving the other way, as both clubs navigated the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Elanga has since acknowledged that he was aware of the speculation but was primarily focused on his commitments.
“I have heard the same things as you,” he told fotbollskanalen while on international duty.
“Rumors are part of football, but I have a contract with Nottingham, and we had a match the day before, so I couldn’t concentrate much on the speculation.”
When asked if there was any truth to the rumors, he replied: “I don’t know, I saw the same news as you.”
Regarding his chats with Isak, Elanga commented: “Isak mentioned it to me, but I told him what I’m telling you now.”
“We have a good rapport and chemistry when playing together. However, I have a contract with Nottingham.”
Reiterating his commitment to Forest, Elanga spoke similarly about any potential future moves.
“I’m focused on Nottingham, aiming for a successful season, and then we’ll see what unfolds,” he added.
“The environment in Nottingham is great. It’s evident that Newcastle’s interest signifies I’m playing well when such a prominent club is watching.”
“Nottingham is also a significant club, having won two Champions Leagues, even if that was before my time. I am content here and committed to my contract.”
Elanga moved to Forest in the summer of 2023 for £15 million, departing from Manchester United, where he began his career as a youth academy graduate.
The 22-year-old made a notable impact during his inaugural season at the City Ground, netting five goals and providing nine assists, making him one of the team’s top performers and helping them avoid relegation.
