UFC legend Conor McGregor has thrown his potential return to the Octagon into question, hinting instead at aspirations of becoming the next President of Ireland.
McGregor has always been vocal about his dedication to Ireland, expressing strong opinions on various pressing political matters, especially during the unrest in Dublin last year following the stabbing of three children.
On the day prior to the unfortunate incident, the 36-year-old tweeted that Ireland was ‘at war’ to his 10.6 million followers on X and cautioned of ‘serious danger in Ireland’, which sparked backlash online.
Current President Michael D. Higgins is expected to call an election in October of next year, providing McGregor an opportunity to strategize a shift towards a political career.
Given McGregor’s recent social media activity, it seems a political future could be on the horizon.

« As President, I possess the authority to summon the Dáil [Ireland’s parliament] and to dissolve it, » McGregor declared on X.
« As I mentioned before, I’d have all the answers the people of Ireland demand from these corrupt politicians, these disruptors of family life, and these destroyers of small businesses, among other things! »
« These frauds in their positions of power would be summoned to account for their actions, and I would ensure this happened by day’s end. »
« Otherwise, I would have no choice but to dissolve the Dáil altogether. Stop the train until it’s done. »
« The people of Ireland deserve the answers they are looking for. No question about it. This would be my power as President. I know that very well. »
« Ireland needs an actively engaged President who serves the people of Ireland wholeheartedly. That person is me. I am the only sensible choice. 2025 is on the way… »
Although McGregor has no formal political credentials or experience,
Support for McGregor came from the controversial figure Andrew Tate, who commented, « I have the Irish passport. I will vote for you. We must take action before it’s too late. »
McGregor’s extensive post followed his criticisms of a bike shed project that reportedly cost £282,000, remarking that he had « seen nicer bus stops » and questioning the decision-making of those in charge.
He added, « With me as president, this type of absurdity that we’ve seen repeatedly, some more serious than others, would be dismantled immediately! A greedy and corrupt group of opportunists is all they are! »
While McGregor has yet to make a significant impact in politics, he has amassed considerable wealth through ventures outside the UFC.
He sold his ownership in the Proper Twelve whiskey brand for nearly £113 million in April 2021 and made his acting debut opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Amazon’s remake of ‘Road House.’
In terms of his UFC career, McGregor has not fought since suffering a lower tibia fracture against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
The former featherweight and lightweight champion was slated to return at UFC 303 against Michael Chandler, but had to withdraw due to a broken toe.
MMA veteran Chael Sonnen recently suggested that this highly anticipated match could take place in 2025, as fans eagerly await the return of the Notorious.
