While Erling Haaland has dominated the Premier League, his fortunes on the international stage have taken a downturn.
A harsh critique of his performance during Norway’s 0-0 draw with Kazakhstan could serve as a much-needed wake-up call.
Haaland has been formidable this season, netting consecutive hat-tricks against Ipswich and West Ham, along with a goal against Chelsea.
However, in the international arena alongside Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard and his other teammates, the 23-year-old striker struggled to find the net.
During the UEFA Nations League match, he lofted an early header over the goal just 23 minutes in.

Four minutes later, he only managed a slight touch on a cross from Felix Horn Myhre.
He followed that up with another weak header attempt just before halftime.
However, the most disappointing moment came after 53 minutes when he hit the post from just two yards out after a brilliant setup from Antonio Nusa, with the goalkeeper easily beaten.
Former Norway coach Egil Olsen expressed his disappointment on TV2, saying, « We have two world-class players on the team, but today Erling Braut Haaland was regrettably far below his standard.
« This is one of the poorest displays I’ve seen from Haaland. Martin Odegaard had flashes of brilliance, but I’ve seen him perform better.”
« A single point from this match is unacceptable. No other teams in this group will drop points against Kazakhstan.”
Former Premier League striker Jan Aage Fjortoft also voiced his frustration over the match results.
Like many observers, he’s bewildered as to why several talented Norwegian players haven’t been able to gel as a cohesive team.
He expressed his disappointment on X (formerly Twitter), stating, « 0-0 in Kazakhstan! This is unacceptable. Another terribly disappointing showing from Norway. It’s a mystery how such a talented group can’t form a strong team.”
The public has also chimed in, with TV2 reporting that Haaland received a 2/10 rating for his performance against Kazakhstan from the fans.
Fortunately for Norway, their UEFA Nations League rivals Austria and Slovenia played to a 1-1 draw, providing Norway with a glimmer of hope.
Next, Haaland will face Austria, hoping to make amends for the disappointing outing against Kazakhstan.
Norway aims to deliver strong performances to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup, with qualification matches starting next March.
If they succeed, it would mark their first international tournament appearance since 1998, taking place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Upon returning to England, Haaland’s first Premier League match will be against Brentford on Saturday, September 14.
