Floyd Mayweather responds boldly to questions about his retirement.

Floyd Mayweather has no plans to retire from boxing anytime soon.

The former champion, known as ‘TBE’ (The Best Ever), officially retired in 2017 with a flawless 50-0 record, yet he remains active in highly profitable exhibition fights.

Mayweather has reportedly made over £200 million by engaging with YouTubers, reality TV stars, and various other personalities during his second career, which has faced criticism from many in the boxing community.

Numerous boxing figures have voiced concerns about Mayweather potentially damaging his legacy through these crossover events, urging him to retire.

In response, Mayweather boldly defended his actions on social media.

He stated: « Retirement isn’t about slowing down; it’s about living on your own terms. I’ve worked diligently to create a life where I can choose my own adventures, and if those adventures generate millions, even better! Success isn’t something to retire from; it’s something to refine. Exhibitions allow my fans—both old and new—to witness my greatness on any stage I choose. That’s what any successful businessman and leader would do. It’s perfectly acceptable for Jeff Bezos, at 60, Bill Gates, at 68, and Warren Buffett, at 93, to continue building their legacies and wealth, and they’re celebrated for their savvy business acumen. Yet when I, a Black man much younger in age, opt to do the same, it somehow becomes an issue for naysayers who have achieved little. Ultimately, too many of you are focused on my finances while I’m busy creating wealth and a lasting legacy. »

Since retiring from professional boxing, Mayweather has entered the ring eight times.

Most of these matches are non-scoring exhibitions, which automatically end in draws when they go the distance, although there have been a few stoppages as well.

His first exhibition match took place in December 2018, where he decisively knocked out kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in the first round.

During that bout, Mayweather knocked down the Japanese fighter three times before the referee stopped the contest.

In the aftermath, Nasukawa was seen weeping as Mayweather celebrated his victory.

The boxing legend also swiftly took care of MMA competitor Mikuru Asakura and YouTuber Deji Olatunji, with his most prominent opponent being content creator Logan Paul.

Despite being significantly outweighed, a staggering 34 lbs, and likely even more on fight night, Mayweather managed to navigate through their eight-round matchup without sustaining any serious injuries.

His latest exhibition was a rematch with John Gotti III in August 2024, following their controversial first bout that erupted into a chaotic brawl after being declared a no-contest due to excessive trash talk.

In their second confrontation, bizarre events unfolded once again, with Mayweather even firing the referee and appointing a new one during the match.
