Francis Ngannou didn’t hold back when he expressed his candid opinion on Jake Paul’s upcoming fight with Mike Tyson, speaking directly to the YouTube star.
The former UFC heavyweight champion appeared on the latest episode of Paul’s podcast, ‘BS w/ Jake Paul’.
During the podcast, Ngannou shared his views on Paul’s highly debated match against Tyson, scheduled for November 15.
‘The Predator’, who trained alongside ‘Iron Mike’ prior to his own boxing debut against Tyson Fury, emphasized that the 58-year-old heavyweight still possesses remarkable skills.
In a recent PFL media scrum in Washington DC, Ngannou told reporters he believes Tyson will « beat Paul, » and he reiterated this sentiment during the podcast when Paul mentioned it.
« You mentioned to a reporter the other day that Mike Tyson will beat my a**, » Paul stated.
Ngannou responded without hesitation, saying: « I do. I’ve seen Mike move around, and I was impressed. He’s still got it. »
While many believe Tyson’s path to victory lies in a knockout, Ngannou suggests his former mentor has a solid chance overall.
Paul, for his part, took Ngannou’s words in stride.
« I love it when someone stands their ground and predicts the other person will win, » he laughed. « This is great for me—Francis Ngannou thinks I’m getting knocked the f*** out. »
Paul playfully inquired about what he should watch for against Tyson.
Ngannou replied, « You need to be cautious of everything. Mike can maneuver quickly and unpredictably. »
« In a different situation, I would support you, but with this, I have to be real, » Ngannou added.
Initially scheduled for July 20, the Paul vs. Tyson fight was postponed after Tyson experienced health issues related to an ulcer.
In his absence, Mike Perry stepped in but was stopped in the sixth round, leading to the rescheduling of Paul vs. Tyson for four months later.
Despite Tyson’s age and health history, Paul remains optimistic that the fight will proceed this autumn, so much so that he hasn’t even secured a backup opponent.
« I’m not worried, » Paul told TMZ. « He’s in great health behind the scenes and feeling fantastic. »
« That’s our main focus right now, and we currently don’t have a backup plan.”
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) has sanctioned Paul vs. Tyson as a professional heavyweight bout, which will feature a modified rule set.
The fight will consist of eight rounds, each lasting two minutes, and both fighters will wear 14oz gloves instead of the standard 10oz gloves.
Knockouts are permitted, and the bout’s outcome will count on both pugilists’ professional records.
