Jack Grealish is set to make his starting debut for England just weeks after being omitted from the Euros squad.

Jack Grealish is set to feature in Lee Carsley’s debut as interim England manager, following his omission from the Euro squad, as reported by talkSPORT.

Although Grealish has started just once in the Premier League this season, Carsley is prepared to rely on the Manchester City talent in the upcoming match against the Republic of Ireland, marking the start of England’s Nations League campaign in Dublin.

The former Aston Villa player can anticipate a challenging reception from Irish fans, as he represented Ireland at the under-21 level before committing to England.

Grealish’s exclusion from Gareth Southgate‘s squad for the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany was unexpected.

Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, part of the four uncapped players called up by Carsley, is also eager to make the starting lineup.

Harry Maguire is anticipated to start in defense, with Levi Colwill filling the left-back position, which has previously posed challenges.

England is entering a new era following Southgate’s resignation after the defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final this past July.

The Football Association has appointed Carsley on a temporary basis as they explore options for a permanent manager.

While the recruitment process for the next senior team manager continues, Carsley has stepped up from his role with the Under-21s.

Carsley acknowledges the pressure of the role but emphasizes that every situation is unique. « It’s one of the best jobs in football, » he stated.

Carsley noted, « We have a unique opportunity right now with exceptional talent, and someone must maximize their potential. »

He highlighted past achievements, stating, « We’ve come close in tournaments, and the right person will build on that success. »

Taking the team’s helm for the upcoming Nations League matches, Carsley expressed his desire to ensure success. The fixtures begin in Ireland on September 7, followed by a home game against Finland.

During Thursday’s squad announcement, Carsley’s enthusiasm was evident, although he deflected inquiries about his aspirations for the permanent position.

« To be honest, I haven’t given it much thought, » he admitted. « My focus is solely on performing well. The best candidate will naturally emerge, whether that’s me or someone else. »

Carsley, who values his time as the Under-21s coach, stated, « I’m proud of that role, and I have a fantastic team around me. If this opportunity ends, I’ll be pleased to hand it off to whoever follows. »

He is aware of his objectives in the immediate future: to lead the team to success in the Nations League.

Carsley mentioned that the FA has not approached him regarding the job that had been advertised until August 2, with the current status indicating ‘we are no longer accepting applications for this position.’
