Liverpool will enter the transfer market for a new defensive midfielder during the winter transfer window, according to Football Insider.
The Merseyside giants had a relatively quiet transfer window with just two signings in Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa.
Mamardashvili has been signed as a long-term replacement for Alisson in goal and he will only join the club from Valencia next summer.
Chiesa, meanwhile, has already been training with the first-team squad, but he could take some time before being involved on the field.
The Reds were determined to sign a holding midfielder in the recent window, but they were unable to persuade Martin Zubimendi to move.
The club did not pursue an alternative option before the deadline, but the hierarchy could be busy when the transfer window reopens.
As things stand, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister have been deployed in the no.6 role and they have been more than decent.
However, manager Arne Slot may want a marquee addition this winter.
