Merab Dvalishvili had quite a surprise when he encountered a frightening skull at his coach John Wood’s residence.
The top contender for the UFC Bantamweight title found himself startled during a visit to his coach’s home in Las Vegas, where a sinister figure greeted him at the entrance.
Muttering under his breath, Dvalishvili remarked on UFC 306 Embedded, « That’s some scary s***. »
Dvalishvili is set to headline UFC 306 this Saturday night, where he will fight Sean O’Malley for the Bantamweight world title at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
Despite a training incident that left him with a cut, creating concerns that the fight could be called off, Dvalishvili is determined to claim the title that O’Malley has held for over two years.
To prepare for the challenge of breaking O’Malley’s nine-fight winning streak, Dvalishvili paid a visit to Wood’s home, as featured in the UFC Embedded YouTube series.
During his time there, he enjoyed a meal with Wood’s family and later watched O’Malley’s victory over Aljamain Sterling from UFC 292.
Speaking about his rapport with Dvalishvili, Wood shared, “The relationship between me and Rab is great. It’s fantastic. He’s such a good person, a good fighter. It’s truly a pleasure to work with him. The vibes are always positive, and he’s pretty funny.”
Dvalishvili added, « After this fight, we’re heading to Georgia. I’ll show him my home and share my culture, and we’ll grow even closer. »
With a professional record of 17 wins and 4 losses, Dvalishvili has impressively defeated notable fighters like Jose Aldo, Petr Yan, and Henry Cejudo in his last three fights.
However, UFC president Dana White expressed frustration after Dvalishvili shared images of the cut on social media last month.
“The entire world knows about Merab’s cut now,” White told members of the media after filming the Contender Series.
“He put it out there. Our fighters really are next-level foolish sometimes.”
“In boxing, incidents like this stay under wraps. But our fighters can’t wait to post everything online.”
“It’s a minor cut, nothing serious, but still, it didn’t need to be broadcasted.”
Preliminary fights for UFC 306 are set to kick off at 12:30 AM on Sunday for UK viewers, with the main event slated to begin at 3 AM.
