Miami Dolphins vs. Jacksonville Jaguars LIVE Updates: UK Start Time, Team News, and talkSPORT Coverage for the NFL Season Opener in Florida

The road to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans officially begins, with each team aiming to halt the Kansas City Chiefs in their quest for an unprecedented third consecutive championship.

Before the Super Bowl hype builds, quarterback rivals Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence will be competing for early season bragging rights.

The Jaguars aim to bounce back after a disappointing end to the 2023 season, having been highlighted as potential breakout contenders.

Head coach Doug Pederson witnessed five losses in their last six games, which pushed his team out of playoff contention despite starting the season strong at 8-3 and leading the AFC South for a period.

Reaching the playoffs again with a revitalized defense would signify progress, but the Dolphins promise to be a formidable challenge.

As they face off against their Florida rivals at home, the Dolphins will be looking to turn around their last season’s three-game losing streak.

Miami Dolphins vs Jacksonville Jaguars: Team News

Miami’s lineup is bolstered by linebacker Jaelan Phillips, who fully recovered from a torn Achilles tendon last season and practiced without restrictions on Friday.

However, Jalen Ramsey is dealing with a hamstring issue, and Malik Washington will not participate.

Receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are confirmed fit to play.

Notably, former Wales rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit has been given another chance by the Jaguars after not making the Chiefs’ 53-man roster.

However, the 23-year-old running back is currently ineligible to play until he is promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.

Miami Dolphins vs Jacksonville Jaguars: What’s Being Said?

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel expressed his excitement after franchise quarterback Tagovailoa secured a new deal this summer.

Tagovailoa signed a significant four-year contract worth $212.4 million, making him the fourth-highest-paid player and quarterback in the NFL—just behind Lawrence of the Jaguars.

« I’m thrilled, but I also anticipated this would happen. Now that it’s official, it’s all about moving ahead, » McDaniel shared.

« It’s not a big celebration, just a handshake and a smile. » He added, « I’m excited for the organization and for Tua; his hard work deserves this recognition. »

Wide receiver Hill noted, according to the Miami Herald: “This is the best Dolphins team I’ve been a part of.

“It’s an exciting time. We have numerous offensive weapons and playmakers. Everyone is eager and ready for the season. . . . Tua has done an excellent job communicating his vision for our routes.

“Mike has given him the reins, allowing us the freedom to express our creativity in our plays.”

On the other hand, Jaguars owner Shahid Khan has issued a stern message to his team following what he deemed an ‘organizational failure’ in 2023.

In a video posted on the Jaguars’ YouTube channel, Khan stated: « A month ago, we celebrated our partnership with the city and the funding approval for a future stadium.

« When speaking to reporters, I made it clear that ‘winning now is the expectation.’ I was not misquoted. Winning now is indeed the expectation. »

He continued, « This team is the strongest we’ve ever assembled—top-tier players and coaches. Most importantly, we need to prove it on the field by winning now. »
