One significant error WWE needs to steer clear of in orchestrating Logan Paul’s upcoming wrestling rivalry as he aims for a prominent role in the organization.

It’s been a month since Logan Paul’s last WWE match, and his anticipated return is expected to be significant.

The 29-year-old last competed at SummerSlam in his native Ohio, where he lost the United States Championship to LA Knight.

This loss ended his nearly year-long reign, which marked his first championship as he transitioned into wrestling.

Prior to the match, he had the backing of local star rapper MGK; however, their usual antics ultimately backfired as Knight capitalized, claiming his first major WWE singles title.

While the conclusion of Paul’s title reign felt appropriate—Knight needed the win more than Paul—there’s a sense that the timing was also just right.

True to the persona of a classic wrestling heel, Paul frequently utilized underhanded tactics like brass knuckles and outside interference to secure his victories. Although this behavior is expected to persist upon his return, SummerSlam seemed to benefit from a change in pace from his typical approach.

Currently, Paul is preparing for the arrival of his first child with fiancée Nina Agdal. Nonetheless, as one of the standout performers on the roster, his return is eagerly awaited. He has expressed a strong aspiration to achieve greatness in wrestling, telling Hulk Hogan on his podcast: « I looked in the mirror at my craft and thought, ‘I believe I can do this if I dedicate myself to it.’”

He continued, “I spoke with Triple H and said, ‘I want to be the guy; what do I need to do to make it happen?’”

“I plan to make that run in 2025. Wrestling is the toughest thing I’ve ever done; it requires so many skills—it’s a complete art form.”

With support from Triple H, who heads creative and admires Paul, there’s a solid foundation laid for his long-term success.

However, for Paul to thrive, it’s essential that he finds a storyline he can commit to for the long haul. So far, his only extended feud has been with Knight. The short-term nature of his engagements—likely due to a limited schedule—needs to shift, and Paul’s declarations about wanting to be ‘the guy’ in 2025 indicate he’s eager for that change.

To avoid superficial feuds driven solely by title aspirations, WWE should cultivate deeper, personal rivalries that resonate with fans. Ideally, these would stem from emotions such as jealousy, history, or physical confrontations. With an elite writing team at its disposal, the promotion can certainly develop compelling narratives for a talent of Paul’s caliber.

With Cody Rhodes poised to remain the Undisputed WWE Champion for the foreseeable future and Gunther just beginning his tenure as World Heavyweight Champion following a 666-day reign with the Intercontinental Championship, it seems unlikely that Paul will contend for either of WWE’s top male titles anytime soon.

Given this, pursuing the IC title or any other mid-card championship might not be beneficial. Fans have witnessed numerous feuds during his time as US Champion, and it’s hard to envision how a rivalry with someone like Bron Breakker would add value for either wrestler. WWE must avoid focusing on titles for now to prevent any setbacks in Paul’s career.

Paul aptly summarized this sentiment, stating, “[Wrestling] always circles back to storytelling – what narrative are you developing to engage people with your craft?”

Without the pursuit of championship gold, it’s time for WWE to flesh out Logan Paul’s character further.
