Rob McElhenney has praised Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson for their impressive performance, declaring, « In Phil we trust. »
Over the past three years, the Welsh club has witnessed a remarkable ascent, achieving consecutive promotions from the National League and League Two.
As they embark on their first season in the third tier, Wrexham is already making waves, currently positioned at the top of League One.
Since the start of the 2022/23 season, no other team has accrued more points across England’s top five leagues, accumulating a total of 212 points.
This success followed a remarkable 111-point haul that secured their promotion from the National League in 2023, and an additional 88 points led them up from League Two last season.
So far this season, Wrexham has claimed 13 points out of a possible 15, a feat that co-owner McElhenney attributes to head coach Phil Parkinson.
Highlighting the team’s achievements, McElhenney remarked, « It’s all thanks to this man. In Phil we trust. »
Parkinson took over as Wrexham’s manager in the summer of 2021, guiding the team to the play-offs in his debut season, where they were narrowly defeated by Grimsby in the semi-finals. This paved the way for the subsequent back-to-back promotions.
Looking ahead, Wrexham aims to achieve a third consecutive promotion, but they will need to face off against eight former Premier League clubs in their quest.
Additionally, Wrexham is aiming for success in the Football League Trophy against Salford City.
Salford, which is supported by members of Manchester United’s iconic Class of ’92, including David Beckham and Gary Neville, faced Wrexham twice last season in League Two, with both teams winning one match each.
Wrexham’s next challenge will be an important match against promotion contenders Birmingham City on Monday night.
This match will see Ryan Reynolds and McElhenney’s team compete against the Blues, who have an investor in NFL superstar Tom Brady.
Clearly looking forward to the matchup, McElhenney reached out to Brady with an enthusiastic message: « See you next Monday @TomBrady 😉 Should be an absolute banger.”
This highly-anticipated match will be live on talkSPORT 2 on Tuesday night, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 PM.
