After 42 minutes, Manchester United’s legends earned a free-kick just outside the penalty area.

Rooney stepped up to take it, and Celtic’s goalkeeper Artur Boruc had no chance.

Boruc was left motionless as the ball soared over the wall and nestled into the top left corner of the net.

A truly exceptional finish.

The commentators at MUTV were left in awe.

Commentator Tim Long remarked, “He’s still got it.”

The Old Trafford crowd reveled in the brilliance of their all-time leading scorer.

It had been two years since any Manchester United player scored directly from a free-kick, the last being Cristiano Ronaldo against Norwich in April 2023.

That match, however, ended in a 1-1 draw thanks to a goal from Gary Hooper.

Currently managing Championship side Plymouth, Rooney’s challenges on the touchline may be overshadowing his legacy as one of England’s all-time greats.

His stints with Derby County, DC United, and Birmingham City have seen his reputation wane.

At Plymouth, he is currently winless in four Championship matches.

No wonder Rooney was eager to return to the pitch at Old Trafford and display his skills once again.

Before the match, he expressed, « It’s my first chance to come back and participate in one of these games. It’s fantastic for the Foundation and a real privilege to see so many former teammates and familiar faces. »

However, the real privilege was for the fans at Old Trafford who got to witness Rooney demonstrate that true talent never fades, especially when you possess his incredible abilities.
